DESCRIPTION:
EPW - C. Halifax, London marked mvt, likely of Continental manufacture, repoussé verge fusee, 45mm, 18K gold or better OF original pair cases, repoussé outer with classical scene to rear, inner bearing London hallmarks for 1783, incuse casemaker's marking somewhat lost to wear but possibly "R P" for Richard Palmer I, white enamel dial, KWKS, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled two-footed balance bridge, s#2030. CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, fully wound, balance is gummy but will tick weakly with reverse pressure added at fusee, overhaul needed, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, soldered repair evident near perimeter of main plate adjacent one of the balance cock feet; nearly flawless dial with few fine to micro-fine scratches, slight perimeter rub near bottom; fine mismatched hands; outer case shows little wear, few mild dings, excellent engraving detail, button latch with impaired function due to metal loss to inner lip of case front which allows front to slip open with virtually no resistance; inner case shows light wear, numerous dents and dings with the most prominent having been caused by button latch assembly of outer case, pendant is of different color and presumably a replacement; bow pivots freely and is a color match to pendant; domed glass crystal with numerous short scratches.
